Bicycles, Travel, and Photography
Adventure Monkey is a new cycling magazine published by a professional photographer and cyclist Eric Benjamin. As far as I can tell, Eric is like many cyclists I know. He is passionate about cycling and likes to talk and read about cycling as much as riding.
I found Adventure Monkey by accident, while looking at other self-published works on MagCloud. It turns out that the issue was published just this past Sunday. I spent some time reading through the issue and discovered a handfull of articles that made me smile (or cringe) with appreciation.
Everything Else is Replaceable tells the story of two cyclists whose home was hit by lightning. When they escaped the resulting fire, they rescued their bicycles along with themselves. After all, our bicycles are our most valued possessions.
Death by Garage Door is familiar to anyone who uses a roof rack to transport their bicycle. My friend Mike did something similar several years ago, and I’ve come very close several times.
At 23 pages, the first issue of Adventure Monkey was a pleasant way to spend 30 minutes. I hope Eric continues with future issues.
The first issue is about cycling in Kansas. I’ve ridden in Kansas. Back in 2000 I rode Bike Across Kansas (BAK) and had a wonderful time cycling past Amber Waves of Grain. I met people there that I still cycle with today.
