2010 Ride of Silence

Ride of Silence

The Ride of Silence is  May 19, 2010 at 7PM local time wherever you live.  Here locally there are rides in Arlington Heights, Chicago, Evanston, Joliet, Peoria, Northwest Indiana.  As I’ve been involved with planning for the local ride for several years, I generally notice news stories about people who are killed injured while riding a bicycle.   These incidents listed below are the ones I’m aware of  since May 1st.

Note that this blog entry is first posting on May 12 at 7PM, just one week before the ride.  Please come back and read this post as I will update it during the week.  I’m not a Facebook user but I hear that there are some photos and video here.

Check out the story in the Northwest Suburban edition of TribLocal, to be published in the Chicago Tribune on Thursday.  Also the lead story on The Pace of Chicago on Thursday 5/13/2010 also.

Before we start the ride in Arlington Heights I’m planning on mentioning these recent  incidents.  Somewhere in the world, nearly every day, you can read about someone killed while riding a bicycle.  The Ride of Silence honors these people and reminds everyone that cyclists have a legal right to the roads and to be careful.
