Bicycles, Travel, and Photography
I’ve started this blog entry to keep track of and highlight organizations which promote cycling and do advocacy for cyclists. These organizations serve the cycling community. They are a wonderful source of information about all activities related to cycling. Larger cities also have advocacy groups which focus on the metropolitan area. These groups promote cycling in their areas, lobby with elected officials, work with traffic engineers, promote cycling clubs, organize rides, and much more. Read their websites to see the particular mission of each group. Read the blogs of each group to learn about cycling in their geographical area.
In my opinion, everyone involved with cycling as a recreational sport, competitive sport, a means of transportation or to earn a living, ought to support and be involved with their local organizations. Membership is inexpensive, often around $35, and the rewards are directly paid back to you via improvements in the places you cycle.
In addition to joining, become a volunteer. These groups run very lean, generally have a small paid staff, and rely on volunteers to achieve their mission.
This list is by no means exhaustive. There are groups in nearly every state. Please email me with any additions.
